Explorers meet local MPs

8 May 2015

explorers1At explorers on Thursday, County Ducks were very fortunate to be visited by Iain Duncan Smith (the Conservative MP for Chingford and Woodford Green) and Bilal Mahmood (the Labour candidate). It was really interesting to learn more about the British political system and have the opportunity to ask questions about the issues that are important to young people, as these issues are often ignored in televised debates. The evening also helped to break down the stereotypes that are often associated with politicians, and helped us learn that their backgrounds are not all that different from ours. Overall it was an eye opening experience and one that I hope more young people get to experience, as I believe that it is important for young people to be involved and interested in politics.

explorers2I thought it was a great experience to meet our local politicians and learn about their plans for our community. It’s a hard choice to pick between the two of them as they both seemed very keen and have the best intentions overall for our area. I wish them both the best of luck.
